CATS Evaluates Bus System with New SmartCATS Report; Route Enhancements Begin July 13
The Capital Area Transit System (CATS) has completed the SmartCATS Comprehensive Operational Analysis (COA), a system-wide evaluation of its bus network. Designed as a 10-year plan, the COA provides insights into existing services and offers data-driven recommendations to support future improvements. Key findings include opportunities to enhance service frequency on core routes, improve connections through timed transfers, and gradually introduce four new routes: the BRAPID Plank-Nicholson Bus Rapid Transit, Old Hammond Highway route, Amazon Connector, and Plank Road – North route. The analysis also supports the advancement of the All Stops Accessible Project (ASAP), aimed at improving access across the system. Implementation of route changes is set to begin on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Additional details, including public outreach events and individual route schedules, will be made available as the rollout progresses. Once the North Transit Center at 5275 Airline Hwy is completed, routes currently served by Earl K. Long Transfer Center – N (#1004) will transition to the new facility.
