CATS Breaks Ground on North Transit Center
CATS held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, July 9, for its new North Transit Center at 5275 Airline Hwy, marking the first phase of Louisiana's inaugural Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The ceremony featured remarks from Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, Louisiana DOTD Secretary Terrance "Joe" Donahue, CATS Board President, Senator Regina Barrow, and FTA Regional 6 Administrator Gail Lyssy, all of whom underscored the significance of this development for Baton Rouge and Baker residents.
The North Transit Center is designed as a hub for multiple bus routes, equipped with modern amenities and real-time bus tracking. This facility is part of the larger Plank-Nicholson BRT project, a 9-mile corridor connecting North and South Baton Rouge to enhance public transit connectivity and accessibility. The project is a collaboration between CATS, the East Baton Rouge City-Parish government, and is supported by federal and local funding.
CATS remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services, continuously expanding to meet the community's evolving needs through innovation and sustainability.
