CATS to enforce social distancing on vehicles during COVID-19

March 18, 2020

For immediate release

Baton Rouge, LA_ As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Capital Area Transit System (CATS) is enforcing social distancing on its vehicles effective immediately and until further notice.

Every other seat will be roped/taped off to ensure the distance between customers while traveling.

Additionally, customers will enter and exit through the rear/side door to limit contact between operators and customers.

"We want the public to know that we are taking this very seriously and have been steadily communicating with other transit properties. This is new territory for all of us, but working together, we will maintain the highest level of safety for our customers and our operators," said CATS CEO Bill Deville.

The agency will monitor this and make updates if they are necessary. This effort will remain in place until directives from federal, state, and local officials change.
