Routes
CATS buses go all over Baton Rouge.

This Web site includes citywide and CBD route maps, and turn-by-turn route descriptions, as well as time schedules for every route.

If the place where you're going is on a different route than the place you're starting from, you can transfer between buses - sometimes at our terminal at Florida and 22nd, sometimes elsewhere.

You can get more information about which routes you need, or a printed booklet with maps and schedules for every route, by contacting us, or at the terminal.
Schedules
To see the time schedule for any route, click the route name in the list on our schedule page.

Buses are not assigned exact times at every stop, so the schedules show times for major intersections along the route. From these, you can estimate when the bus will get to your stop.

Be sure to arrive at your stop a few minutes early, since people's watches vary.
Bus stops
Bus stop signs are located at many street corners along each route.

If you're not sure where your nearest bus stop is, please contact us for help.

Wait for the bus at the bus stop sign. When the bus approaches, signal the driver so she'll know you want her to stop for you.
Fares
For Baton Rouge city routes:
  • Adults: $1.75
  • Children under 5: Free
  • Senior citizens (62+), people with disabilities who show a CATS ID card, anyone showing a Medicare card, and students up through high school with ID: 35¢
You must have exact change ready when you board.

LSU, Southern University, and BRCC campus routes are free. Route 16 Capitol Park Trolley is also free.

If you need an ID card for reduced fare, please contact us to find out how to get one.
Passes
The following passes can be purchased at our terminal at Florida and 22nd Streets:
  • 31-day pass ($56) - Good for unlimited rides for 31 days. The pass will be validated the first day of use and will expire at midnight on the 31st day.
  • 7-day pass ($19) - Good for unlimited rides for 7 days. The pass will be validated the first day of use and will expire at midnight on the 7th day.
  • 15-ride pass ($24.50) - Good for 15 rides only. If you're a senior citizen with proper ID, you can purchase a special senior version of this pass for $5.25.
  • Single-day pass ($4 for a weekday; $2 for a Saturday or Sunday) - Available for the current day. These passes can also be purchased on-board.
Passes are non-refundable and non-replaceable.
Transfers
If you'll need to transfer to a second bus to get where you're going, ask when you board for a transfer slip, which costs 25¢. If your trip requires a third bus, you can get another transfer on the second bus for an additional 25¢.

Transfers are not good on the issuing route, so you cannot use them for a round trip.
Holidays
On holidays, we usually run a reduced level of service, as shown below. But this list is subject to change, so check our home page just before a holiday for the latest information.
  • New Year's Day: Sunday schedule
  • Martin Luther King Day: Saturday schedule
  • Mardi Gras: Saturday schedule
  • Good Friday: Saturday schedule
  • Memorial Day: Saturday schedule
  • Independence Day: Saturday schedule
  • Labor Day: Sunday schedule

This list applies to Baton Rouge city routes. There are separate reduced schedules for LSU, Southern University, and BRCC campus routes, based on each university's class break schedules.
Bikes
Many CATS buses are equipped with bike racks.

Paying passengers can use the bike racks free, but must be certified to do so.

To be certified, call CATS at 225/389-8282, extension 106, to schedule an appointment. Appointments are generally available between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on weekdays.

During the appointment, you will need to watch a 4-minute video that shows you how to use the bike rack, and you will also need to demonstrate the procedures on an actual bike rack. You can bring your own bike for this purpose, or use one that CATS will have on hand.

Finally, you must sign a waiver form. This form states, among other things, that you agree that CATS will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any bicycle placed on a CATS vehicle.

Then you will be issued a bike rack certification card, which you must show the operator each time you use the bike rack. You are allowed only two free cards. After that, there is a $5.00 fee per card.
Disabled?
Most (not all) CATS buses can carry you in a wheelchair.

If you can't use regular CATS buses at all because of a disability, you might be eligible for CATS On Demand, special transportation for people with disabilities. Visit the CATS On Demand page for more information.

We make every effort to adhere to published routes and schedules, but bear no liability for failure to do so. All information on any CATS Web site is subject to change without notice.
