CATS Awarded Federal Study Grant

Baton Rouge, La. – The Capital Area Transit System (CATS) is pleased to announce they have been awarded $670,000 in federal grant funds from the Federal Transit Authority (FTA), as part of the Areas of Persistent Poverty program.

“This grant will fund a community outreach study to identify and improve transit options in underserved areas of Baton Rouge,” said CATS interim CEO Dwana Williams. “For many in our community, public transit is a lifeline, and this study will allow our CATS team to evaluate how we can help connect our neighbors to jobs, schools, healthcare, and other crucial services.”

The FTA received applications totaling close to $63 million in funding requests, and the award decisions were made on a competitive basis, with the goal of creating better transit for residents who have limited or no transportation options.

This latest award is CATS’ second federal grant award this month. CATS was previously awarded $514,045 for route planning, bringing the June grant total to just under $1.2 million.
