CATS Awarded Federal Route Planning Restoration Grant

Baton Rouge, La. – The Capital Area Transit System (CATS) is pleased to announce they have been awarded $514,045 in federal grant funds from the Federal Transit Authority (FTA), as part of the Route Planning Restoration Program.

“This crucial funding from the FTA will allow the CATS team to perform important route planning studies and evaluate opportunities for transit-oriented development along the Florida Boulevard corridor,” said CATS interim CEO Dwana Williams. “The information our team gathers from these studies, along with input from our community collaborators such as Build Baton Rouge, will help us design routes that will reach our riders where they are, and provide safe, efficient, and speedy service to Baton Rouge residents.”

The grant is administered under the FTA’s Route Planning Restoration Program, through funding provided by Congress in the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. The grant program is intended to help local transit agencies increase ridership, reduce travel times, and make service adjustments to increase the quality or frequency of transit service for low-income riders and disadvantaged neighborhoods or communities.
